More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Vocational training sessions in the embroidery arts of "zari" and "zardosi" will pave the way for economic sustenance for the women of the village of Holtikotti. Holtikotti is located in a remote area with little means of access to the main market. Women with enough zari and zardosi skills can find direct access to the main market instead of going through brokers and middlemen, who often subject them to economic and sexual exploitation.

Activities

"Zari" and "zardosi" training courses for 30 village women so that they may sell their work in the market.

Why this Project is Important

Potential Long Term Impact

Vocational training will not only prevent migration and create economic sustenance for the women who receive training, but will also pave the way to economic and social development for the entire village.

Project Message

"Vocational training is being imparted on a daily basis and the women are now getting ready with a catalogue of their designs so that they may take orders from the market."

Latest Update from the Field

Skill Enhancement and Vision Enlargement

By Indira Jena - CEO/Managing Trustee, May 29, 2007 06:23 PM

The skill enhancement of the 60 rural women in Holtikotti has helped them get artisan passes which enable them to exhibit their products at any national / local exibition.

The 200 women of Kurnool now have set their vision on establishing an exclusive garment factory, creating employment for 2000 trained women thus moving them away from the hazardous job they had of rolling 'bidis' or indigenous cigarettes for very low wages.
