Tarabanu with cows Tarabanu lives in Kaspora, a small village where most families get by on subsistence agriculture. 4 years ago, she joined a small microcredit group of 20 neighbors formed with the support of SATU. She was motivated to save money each week in her own savings account. She learned skills in health promotion and vegetable growing techniques, financial management skills and also how to raise cows, ducks and other livestock. Photo credit: Jan Sturmann	Tarabanu with chickens Within six months of joining the group, she took out a small loan of $85 to buy some ducks and a calf. With her earnings, she paid back her loan and took a second loan $143. With this money she leased a plot land near her house on which she and her husband planted mustard and rice. Now she has a gaggle of ducks, a dozen chickens and 5 cows, 2 of which were giving milk. Her family's diet has improved and their income provide some stability. Photo credit: Jan Sturmann
