Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Rural communities in Oaxaca, Mexico face severe problems related to overexploited agricultural lands, water scarcity, and natural resource depletion. Technical and practical knowledge in green technologies is necessary to increase local self-sufficiency, create better living conditions, and preserve the region's biodiversity and cultural identity. This project offers hands-on training and practical solutions for communities to restore the landscape, grow their own food, and use renewable energy.

Activities

Organic gardens teach families how to grow clean food to improve their diets. Rainwater storage tanks provide a reliable source of water in arid landscapes. Solar energy ovens use renewable energy to cook and reduce the dependence on fossil fuels.

Potential Long Term Impact

Practical training in low-cost green technologies will provide 30 families with food and water self-sufficiency, thus improving their livelihoods and providing them with skills to train future generation in their community.

New compost toilets built

The amounts donated by GlobalGiving was used to cover the cost of material and installation of 2 dry compost toilet seats, and rooftops of the compost toilets of Don Tino and Doña Juanita from EJUTLA, Oaxaca.

The rest of the project to now was financed by other donors, to help cover the materials for the earth/recycled (or UPcycled) walls and interiors. We used glass soda bottles, and plastic soda containers, local earth, hay and stones as well as cactus ferment and calcium.
