Mission

Helps International's mission is to provide enduring programs of practical, social, and spiritual value to the people in the developing world through a system of partnership and mutual responsibility.

Programs

HELPS manufactures ONIL stoves in a Guatemalan factory and installs them in hard-to-reach rural communities. HELPS has set up a training system whereby five women from the community are trained in stove assembly, use, and maintenance. A stove technician assists these women to assemble the stoves in their own homes, and then they pass on their skills to their neighbors. Each community will have three follow-up visits from a stove technician to ensure that the stoves are working well.

Don O'Neal - Special Projects Director and Vice President
Mr. O’Neal retired in 1983 as Senior VP of Engineering for Intecom, an Exxon affiliate. Since then he has worked pro bono in poverty reduction efforts in Guatemala for HELPS International. He now serves as Special Project Director and VP of HELPS and is on the Board of Directors. In 1997 he designed and constructed a school for Santa Avelina, Guatemala.
