Profit for Poor Farmers
More Information About this ProjectProject Needs and BeneficiariesDals (Lentils) are extensively grown by farmers in tribal areas of Udaipur. Socially marginalized and poor farmers sell their produce directly in raw form, which passes through a series of intermediaries, including several layers of traders, processing mills and wholesalers/retailers. Farmers, in this commodity-chain, are systematically exploited due to asymmetries in information and other inefficiencies. The farmers ultimately receive less than 1/3 of prevailing retail price of processed dals ActivitiesGetting the farmer-group registerd into an organization, train them for processing, acquire land, build infrastructure, install machinery & market their finished dal. With this poor farmers will receive more equitable returns for their hard work.
