Szadvar castle project and youth camp, Hungary
More Information About this ProjectProject Needs and BeneficiariesSzogliget is located in one of the poorest counties. After 1990, state sponsored factories and mines closed their gates leaving many people without jobs. The population fell below 800 as young people moved to the cities to find jobs. The village has a famous but neglected medieval castle and is located next to the UNESCO listed Aggtelek NP. The project aims to create a tourist destination by restoring part of the castle and bring 30000 visitors per year who will strengthen the local economy. ActivitiesThe project will clean up the castle grounds, restore a tower to be a viewpoint, place signs and trash bins along the road, and professionals will hold summer camps for students about historic monument preservation and enviroment protection Funding InformationTotal Funding Received to Date: £1,271 Additional DocumentationThis project has provided additional documentation in a Microsoft Word file (projdoc.doc).
