Sustainable Livelihoods for Youths in Ghana
More Information About this ProjectProject Needs and BeneficiariesIn the Accra slums, many youths are not educated above the Junior Secondary School Level (Year 8). To survive, they often resort to peripheral activities such as begging, stealing, prostitution and drug couriering. This situation is especially detrimental to young single mothers, who become highly exposed to physical and sexual abuse and sexually transmitted diseases including HIV/AIDS. This project combats this problem by providing 140 such youths with alternative livelihood options. ActivitiesThis project will offer vocational training courses and tool kits for: tailoring, hairdressing and catering (females), masonry, carpentry and electrical repair (males); micro-entrepreneurial skills training; and sexual reproductive health education.
