75000 trees for rehoused families in Sri Lanka
More Information About this ProjectProject Needs and BeneficiariesThe 2004 Tsunami devastated huge areas of Sri Lanka, destroying important vegetation for both communities and the natural environment. The project will establish further community-owned tree nurseries to help restore the rainforest, revegetate coastal conservation areas and provide trees for food, medicine and shade to help resettled families. It will also offer local people income generation and employment opportunities through conservation. ActivitiesCommunity nurseries will be established, local networks will decide on priorities for planting, and an education programme for children will teach about the eco-system. A linkage with tourism industry will offer visitors an opportunity to buy a tree. Funding InformationThis project has been retired and is no longer accepting donations.
