Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Hundreds of elderly people across Addis Ababa are currently being helped by Ethiopiaid's pensions. £5 a month allows them to sleep soundly at night knowing where their next meal is going to come from. Alongside the pensions, they receive basic clothing and help maintaining their homes meaning that they can live proudly into old age instead of scrapping to get enough food from day to day.

Activities

A £5 per month pension can support an elderly person allowing them to live with dignity. Ethiopiaid wants to raise funds to support 10 more pensioners for the coming year.

Potential Long Term Impact

With the pensions provided by Ethiopiaid the pensioners can live dignified lives without having to beg on the streets to feed themselves. Many are also looking after their grandchildren when the children's parents have died early.

Pensions for elderly in Ethiopia

Ethiopian Elder

During the last year your donations have paid for pensions, clothing allowances and repairs to the homes of the most desperate elders in Ethiopia. Donations have also contributed to the running of day centres in the heart of the communities where the elderly can go to socialise, have refreshments, receive medical care and earn a small income by making clothes and traditional goods to sell. Those people unable to get to the centre have been provided with home care where they receive food and assistance with all aspects of personal hygiene, helping to make life easier.
