Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village
MissionTo enable orphaned and vulnerable youth to realize their maximum potential by providing them with a safe and secure living environment, health care, education and necessary life skills. Education and service are used to model and create socially responsible citizens in Rwanda and around the world. ProgramsThe Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village (ASYV) is a residential community for teenage orphans in Rwanda and is home to 500 teenagers and over 120 staff. The Village is designed to care, protect, and nurture the teens who were orphaned during and after the genocide in 1994. In addition to an exemplary secondary education, ASYV offers enrichment programs in sports, arts, and culture and provides a healthy environment that helps the teenagers grow both emotionally and intellectually. Modeled after the Israeli system that was introduced to reclaim the lives of those who were orphaned in the Holocaust, ASYV is a place where traumatized teens can "dry their tears" (Agahozo) and "live in peace" (Shalom) and gain the skills necessary to become leaders and continue rebuilding Rwanda and making the world a better place.
