Help train 11 young women in beekeeping in Mexico
More Information About this ProjectProject Needs and BeneficiariesThe project helps to protect a rare and endangered species of native bee, the Melipona Becheii, currently dying out as a result of deforestation and other factors. It is responsible for the pollination of between 30-50% of Central American flora and fauna. The project also offers sustainable livelihoods to young, unemployed Mayan women living in poor communities, giving fresh hope for the future. ActivitiesBuilding of bee boxes, training and capacity building of women (training in hive construction, site selection, harvesting, honey & wax processing, packaging, marketing, business skills and value-added production) and planting of flora fauna.
