Mission
Our vision is a world where children with disabilities can achieve the best possible quality of life. We work to improve the lives of disabled children in Russia by promoting a system of support (Portage) for disabled children in partnership with families and carers and by encouraging a more positive attitude to disability
Programs
Ryazan Baby Home - delivering Portage sessions to 40 disabled children
Yelatma Closed Orphanage - delivering Portage sessions to 30 more profoundly disabled older children and delivering individual development programmes for 15 mobile children
Ryazan town - delivering Portage sessions to 22 families
Developing a volunteer programme to meet the wider needs of these disabled children
Developing a centre of excellence within Ryazan to improve the lives of all disabled children in Russia
Personnel Overview
Tanya van Dalen - Volunteer Occupational Therapist
Tanya qualified as an OT in South Africa in 1996 and worked in a number of specialities including acute hospitals and the community. As Senior OT Tanya specialises in working with children with speech and language disorders such as Autism, learning disabilities and challenging behaviour. November 2008 Tanya volunteered for ThePromise working with the young people in Yelatma & training their carers
Jo Wooster - Volunteer Physiotherapist
Jo qualified as a Physiotherapist in 2004 and has worked in a number of London hospitals as well as children’s community services and schools. In 2007 Jo volunteered for ThePromise, assessing and treating the children and training the staff about working with disabled children. Jo now works for ThePromise, running a volunteer project to offer continued support and training to the teams in Russia.
