Indian Youth: from business training to start-up
More Information About this ProjectProject Needs and BeneficiariesUNICEF estimates that 18 million children and youth live and work on the streets of India. Many resort to dangerous or illegal activities to provide for their basic needs. In March ‘09 we trained 33 disadvantaged youth teaching them basic business skills, from budgeting to how to deal with customers. This project will enable those trained youth to access small loans to start their own businesses so they can generate regular income for themselves and their families in a safe and healthy way. ActivitiesThis project will provide youth with start-up capital for their businesses. The loans will enable them to apply the skills learned in training, maximize the ongoing support from local youth workers and begin to generate regular income for themselves. Funding InformationThis project has been retired and is no longer accepting donations. Additional DocumentationThis project has provided additional documentation in a Microsoft Word file (projdoc.doc). ResourcesWhy this Project is ImportantPotential Long Term ImpactThese loans enable the trained youth to get their own small businesses off the ground and generate income to provide for themselves and their families. The loans are fully repayable, ensuring a self-perpetuating opportunity for future trained youth. Project Message
"Since the training I have changed the way I speak to my customers and started to buy balloons in bulk. In the first week I sold balloons at two small festivals and more than doubled my money." Who is Running This ProjectContact
