More Information About this Project
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
Life in rural Zimbabwe can be terribly difficult with life expectancy only in the upper 30's. This is due to a lack of health training at schools in the rural areas. The first 5 years of a child's life is crucial with early childhood death a common occurrence. Nutrition at an early age is critical.
Activities
ASAP will conduct a 3-day Health workshop for 24 women CFs on how diseases spread, nutrition, permaculture, growing and using medicinal herbs and general health issues. The CFs will then cascade the knowledge to at least 12,000 women in their home villages.

Why this Project is Important
Potential Long Term Impact
Over 12,000 villagers will be trained in ways to improve their nutrition, their health and their children's health. This will have an immediate impact on the general health of the rural area with fewer early childhood deaths.
Project Message
“By using our existing Village and Savings program as a platform to implement the Health Club Project, we will reduced the overall cost and make it accessible to more people."
- Mr. Joseph Miti, Program Manager, Zimbabwe

Project on Hold
By Tom Arsenault - Overseas Program Manager, April 03, 2012 11:02 AM
Thank you for your support for ASAP’s Improve Health in rural Zimbabwe Project. As some of you know, the political situation in Zimbabwe is very tenuous right now with presidential elections on the horizon. Organizations like ASAP, working to help families survive in the rural areas, are being harassed. During the 2008 election all organizations were forced to close and meetings of more than 3 people were not allowed. The situation in 2012 is again unpredictable and as a precaution, ASAP will change its approach on the ground and only focus on school fees to keep girls in school. These project funds will therefore be redirected to support ASAP’s School Fees for Girls Project.

Your understanding and support to help children during this time of great need in Zimbabwe is greatly appreciated.
