Latest Update from the Field

Upcoming Activities

By Rahila Muhibi - Project Leader, June 10, 2010 10:08 AM

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to your continued donations and supports for our much needed literacy programs in Afghanistan. Our winter literacy classes ended with some success and some challenges. While it has given some mothers a great level of confidence in their abilities to learn. We have also been facing a number challenges in keeping them interested in our literacy classes due to their harsh economic conditions. Moreover, as we are a small-scale grass root program, it has been difficult to receive funding for not being a registered foundation/organization. Therefore, while our nomadic mothers are away finding food for their cattle and themselves we will be focusing on the following activities till our next literacy classes begin.

1. Organize literacy teacher training for our teachers so that they can enhance their skills of teaching and motivating our mothers more effectively for our upcoming classes.

2. Register our program in the Afghan government so that we become an official working entity in Afghanistan.

3. Work on potentially adding an economic incentive aspect to literacy programs so mothers can earn a living as well besides learning.

Given the current status of our program and the areas in which we operate, some of the above goals might be ambitious but we will try our best possible to reach our goals for the sake of Afghan Mothers with your support who believe in abilities and courage of vulnerable mothers and us.
