Solar power to help environment & reduce overheads
More Information About this ProjectProject Needs and BeneficiariesWe allow underprivileged children to experience their local environment which is their heritage. We inspire these children to protect their environment and inform them about eco tourism job opportunities. The project is far from supplies. We can only make a trip to town once a week and fresh supplies need to be refrigerated or frozen. Solar energy will be used to power our centre. ActivitiesWeekly 8 needy children attend bush school at the wildlife orphanage. Rescued animals, bush walks and lessons inspire students to care for their environment. Children are tutored on school subjects and are also taught about life skills and careers. Funding InformationThis project has been retired and is no longer accepting donations. Additional DocumentationThis project has provided additional documentation in a PDF file (projdoc.pdf). ResourcesWhy this Project is ImportantPotential Long Term ImpactTo run the office, 3 fridges and 3 deep freezers Daktari has to run generators and gas which are colossal expenses affecting our survival. Being equipped with solar power will reduce our cost whilst reducing the pollution using clean energy. Project Message
As we educate underprivileged children to care for their environment it is essential to use clean energy as model and create awareness about this brilliant source of power while reducing our costs. Who is Running This ProjectContact

Dear Supporters,
We are happy to inform you that our project to equip Daktari’s Bush School with solar power has been completed. With your help and another private sponsor we have been able to buy and install 3 solar fridges, 3 solar deep freezers and the equipment to run our office with solar energy. This equipment has really made a huge difference to our running cost as we haven’t ordered any gas since the installation took place. This also allows us to reduce pollution and to educate our local children about this alternative source or power which hopefully will be available to them in the near future. We thank you for your support toward our work and for your generous donation which has contributed to achieve the project. Please feel free to contact us to let us know how you feel about the achievement you have been part of. We will certainly need more batteries and solar equipment in the future and will, in time, offer you another green project to support through Global Giving. In the mean time you are more than welcome to help us with our on going project of covering the cost to welcome underprivileged children for a week of education about environment. You can follow the links below if you would like to carry on supporting our work. We wish you a happy Christmas with your friends and family and look forward to hear from you. Ian and Michele Links:
