Mission

To reduce the risk of HIV infection among at-risk communities in Sub Saharan Africa.

Programs

We run two programmes in Malawi: one for pre-service teachers in teacher training colleges, and one for sex workers. Both programmes use a peer education model, and a satellite strategy, where a core group is trained to facilitate participatory workshops with peers. In this way, a relatively small number of people can impact on a large number of participants.

Personnel Overview

Samuel Atiemo - Senior Programmes Officer
Samuel has been working with Theatre for a Change since 2004 and started the sex work programme in 2007. He is a highly skilled community facilitator, and has trained the core group of sex workers, who are now ready to train their peers.

Ruth Kamachanga - Training and Monitoring Officer
Ruth was trained by Samuel how to mobilise a group and deliver participatory behaviour change workshops and advocacy performances.She is now the lead facilitator on the project, and works with the women in the local language and supports their professional and personal development.
