More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Santiago’s orphanages were severely damaged by the earthquake, resulting in a highly dangerous situation for over 450 abandoned and abused children. The structural damages are further complicated by the surrounding impoverished neighborhoods, leaving hundreds of children without a secure place to sleep. VE Global would restore stability and hope to these children and institutions, providing the essential repairs and sanitation needed to make the homes safe again.

Activities

The project addresses disaster relief, sanitation, and prevention. Volunteers and professionals will clear hazards and make crucial structural repairs, provide sanitation services for disease prevention, and provide earthquake survival programs.

Latest Update from the Field

Keeping Hope

By Josh Pilz - Executive Director, November 23, 2010 09:43 AM

Nearly 8 months after the earthquake, we are happy to say that all of our institutions and children are safe, healthy, and living in secure environments. The only exception is the case of one children's shelter, home to ten young children.  Donations we have received will be used on reconstruct the wall at Hogar Pléyades. The remaining parts of the wall have been completely destroyed in the meantime, and as a result, the western wall of the property is nonexistent. The children, staff, and management of the home are eager to see the wall restored, as is the team at VE Global. We are continuing to work with Pléyades to assure that the wall is resurrected in a timely, efficient manner.
Furthermore, the management team at VE Global is beginning work on a Earthquake and Disaster Safety educational workshop, which will reach hundreds of Chilean children. More details will be coming soon!
