Mission

African Promise is a small-scale charity dedicated to transforming a concentrated handful of village primary and nursery schools in the isolated rural community of Kasigau in south-east Kenya. We are currently only very small but in the three years since our founding we have built strong relationships with the community in which we work, as well as a widespread reputation for delivering tangible change and development.

Programs

The current focus of our work is on wide-ranging infrastructure development projects that enhance both learning environments, and other wider school facilities. We build, furnish and stock libraries; construct and renovate classrooms; install rainwater harvesting, water supply and sanitation facilities; provide educational resources, classroom furniture and playground equipment; and much, much more.

Personnel Overview

Charles Coldman - Founder and Project Director
Charles is the 26-year-old founder of the charity. He visited Kenya with a UK volunteer organisation in 2003 and Africa got under his skin. In 2006 Charles spent six months in Kenya managing our very first school development and in 2008 moved to Kenya to establish African Promise on the ground. He now divides his time between there and the UK where he oversees our fundraising operations.

Denis Mwanyiro - Senior Project Manager
Denis became the second member of the team in Kenya in 2008. He is 25 years-old and from the village of Jora where his family run the local 'supermarket'. As Senior Project Manager, Denis is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the charity.
