More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Over 1 million children die annually in Nigeria, 19.5% in the first 28 days of life. The causes of these deaths include, HIV/AIDS, 3%; diarrhea, 13%; Measles, 11%, Malaria, 20.4% and Pneumonia, 17%. At least 61% of these causes are treatable. The greatest causes of maternal deaths include haemorrhage, infection, obstructed labour and hypertensive disorders. The Women’s Hospital will care for over 2,000 women a year including providing emergency obstetric care.

Activities

The 200-bed Children’s Hospital will provide childhood vaccinations and include a Paediatric and Intensive Care Unit. The 250-bed Women’s Hospital will be equipped to provide medicines, antibiotics, transfusions and to perform C-sections if needed.

Potential Long Term Impact

The Children’s Hospital in Ogun State will treat over 1,500 children a year and treat children from many rural areas where traumatic injuries can cause disability or death. The Women’s Hospital will provide skilled care, key to saving lives.
