More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Tropical Storm Agatha dropped three feet of rain in less than 24 hours, dis-guarded houses and belongings with winds of up to 45mph. It devastated Guatemala and has left it picking up the pieces. It has so far killed 146 people, left 52 people missing, 54 people injured and 94,000 evacuated from their homes. And the death toll is rising. Guatemala is in a state of emergency. The most effected regions are Guatemala, Sacatepéquez, and Chimaltenango.

Activities

The situation is very sad but we have been been here before and helped after Hurricane Stan and Hurricane Mitch, and will help after Agatha. We will use donations to provide food and support to communities and help rebuild their lives.

Latest Update from the Field

Agatha Food Distribution

Thanks to the incredible fundraising response from our supporters we have started aid for communities in Guatemala.

In Santa Maria De Jesus, 90% of crops and several houses were destroyed with many other houses suffering structural damage. Saddest of all some family members were killed.

With the funding we distributed emergency food supplies, Maiz for tortillas and sugar to the families of children we teach. The Maiz will be sufficient to provide tortillas for a family for a whole month which will help greatly during this difficult time.

Lack of food, even more than before, is now a huge problem for Indigenous communities in Guatemala.
