More Information About this ProjectProject Needs and BeneficiariesThe creation of Amigos de Sian Ka’an set a precedent for being the first non-governmental, non-profit association formed in Quintana Roo. Spawning aggregations are specific locations in the Reef where fish meet at precise times to reproduce. Despite its high ecological importance little is known about these sites. ActivitiesSince 2006 with the support of many organizations and local fishermen, ASK have been conducting research dependent on funding in the Quintana Roo coast. Through the monitoring program, we intend to influence environmental regulation in the area. Funding InformationTotal Funding Received to Date: £1,351 ResourcesWhy this Project is ImportantPotential Long Term ImpactSo far the project has been very successful with more than 60 km explored so far and ten sites validated. The project is training local fishermen to survey multi-species spawning aggregations and develop sustainable long term fishing policies. Project Message
