More Information About this Project
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
Here in Rwanda a large number of women face the problems of illiteracy and a lack of education. Illiterate women are unable to understand what is going on in society or to participate as active citizens. They can’t vote on their own or fight for their rights. Illiterate women have no privacy as they must ask others to read their documents for them. As a result they are easily deceived. Finally, illiterate women can’t run a business.
Activities
Our project will reduce illiteracy among the women by teaching them reading, writing and basic math, providing them with business skills, and training them about their rights.

Why this Project is Important
Potential Long Term Impact
The project will teach the women how to plan a simple business project to improve their lives. The women will participate in society, know their rights, and claim them. They will send more girls to school because they will know the value of literacy.
Project Message
Before, I was illiterate. I couldn’t do business, save money in the bank or find my way around because I couIdn’t read signs. Now, I have my small salon and a bank account, and I can even read signs!
- Nyiranteziryayo Viridian, The new owner of a salon; Our former Student
