This project will support former child soldiers, children and families affected by civil war to strengthen their capacity to take more responsibility for their health and well being by providing comprehensive primary and preventive care services, with a mother-child focus. The project will also empower women to reduce their vulnerability to HIV/AIDS and socio- cultural practices through skills development, dairy farming and micro finance programs.
The armed conflict of the past decades in Northern Uganda region has widened and deepened the physical, mental and economic impoverishment of the population in Northern Ug. There is also poor service coverage; the local government is only able to reach out to less that 60% of the community and the rest are living very sorrowful life styles. The project's activities aim to provide access to healthcare, provide vocational skills and knowledge to 200 former child soldiers and mothers
The project hopes to realize improved healthcare delivery to former child soldiers, improved adherence to medication and prompt seeking of treatment of opportunistic infections, reduced stigma and discrimination and an improved and sustainable livelihoods due to initiated culturally viable Income Generating Activities.
The project will provide access to health care to 200 former childsoldiers basic knowledge and skills of providing home based care to HIV positive children. Furthermore, the project will provide entrepreneurship literacy to enable these former child soldiers initiate income generating activities for sustainability of better healthcare and nutritional needs for them and their HIV positive children.
