Summary

Support for medical clinics, mobile units and Community Health Workers (CHWs) reaching 16,000 patients a month in rural or urban poor areas of Afghanistan. These clinic services are the only medical option for tens of thousands of people providing treatment, preventive care and health education.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

Poor Afghans suffer from poverty, disease, and malnutrition with little access to health care some rural communities have no hospitals nearby. People are too poor to pay for health care or transportation to the nearest health facility when a loved one gets sick. Everyday mothers and babies die during at home birthing. Lack of knowledge about hygiene and other personal health issues as well as myths and superstitions perpetuate unhealthy choices and cost lives and suffering.

How will this project solve this problem?

AIL supports rural and poor urban health clinics that serve patients with medical exams, laboratory analysis, nutrition services, vaccinations, midwifery, pharmacy, minor surgery, dentistry, health education and family planning.

Potential Long Term Impact

AIL clinics provide health care and health education to those who lack any other medical options. Health care saves lives and health education prevents future sickness by teaching people practical strategies for protecting their health.
