In the Jordan Valley, extremely poor Palestinian women must travel long distances across checkpoints to receive pre-natal and maternity care. If a mother giving birth faces any complications or if her newborn baby is sick, the long distances can prevent them from getting the care they need in timeand they could die. Help equip a Prenatal Care Clinic and a Birthing Center (2 sites) to save the lives of mothers and babies in Area C.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
In the Jordan Valley, Palestinian women among the poorest of the poor, must travel far across checkpoints to receive pre-natal and maternity care. If a mother giving birth faces any complications or if her newborn baby is sick, there is no time for such an arduous trip. Area C is a high risk area too: nearly all Palestinian families are issued demolition or expulsion orders, with Israeli Army training and demolitions underway nearby. Your donation will help save the lives of mothers and babies.
How will this project solve this problem?
Lives are saved when medical care is close to home. When this project was first conceived, we planned for one birthing center but as implementation nears, a second site with a Prenatal Clinic and Maternal/Child Health program is also needed. The Palestinian town of Ein Al Beida will be the home of the Birthing Center; the Mother Child Health Program will be in Al Aqaba Village. Please give to equip the Prenatal Clinic and for coordination to ship the medical equipment (a challenging process).
Potential Long Term Impact
This first Birthing Center and Prenatal Clinic in Area C, will provide some 10,000 people with family-centered birthing assistance, and pre and post-natal care. The centers will help an at-risk population thrive. Medical training provided to doctors, nurses, and midwives will bring down the high infant mortality in the area and stimulate new grants for medical care. Grassroots and Diplomatic assistance will help secure the fundamental human rights of these indigenous people.
