Summary

This project enables youths and young adults to be gainfully employed and self-sufficient by providing skills training in high-demand trades and tool-kits that help them start their own businesses.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

Many school drop outs, orphans and people displaced by the civil war in Freetown do not have access to equipped facilities for training in valuable self-sufficiency trade skills. There is a high demand for the provision of practical and tertiary training services like this that will enable them to be gainfully employed or run their own businesses. Financial assistance is not readily available to help them obtain the tools needed to practice their trade to earn a living.

How will this project solve this problem?

This project provides trade skills training in Sewing / Tailoring, Gara Tie-dying and Batik, Soap Making, Hairdressing, and Adult Literacy. On completion of training, trainees are provided with a trade toolkit to help start their own business.

Potential Long Term Impact

The project contributes to youth development in skills for self-reliance and entrepreneurship, creating employment opportunities for disadvantaged youths and young adults that helps them to move from poverty and unemployment to self-sufficiency.
