This project will build a school in Guff village in rural Rawalpindi Pakistan, providing education for underprivileged children. Over 7.3 million children in Pakistan have no access to schools. Girls are often employed into child labour or forced to stay at home and look after young siblings. Many who are privileged enough to go to school often encounter dilapidated school buildings and under-qualified teaching staff. Our aim is to provide well-trained staff and a safe school for 250 students.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
A few years ago, DIL helped Guff village realise its dream of its first and only primary school. The school quickly became a safe haven for the village children and children of migrant workers who seasonally visit the area. As a result, 250 children who had never seen the inside of a classroom, are now attending regular school. However Guff school has outgrown its capacity. There in also need for higher grades as girls want to continue their education beyond grade 5.
How will this project solve this problem?
With the support of the community, DIL has begun to construct a purpose built school in Guff Village in Chauhan District of Rawalpindi. The school building has 2 storeys to accommodate 8 class rooms, a principal's office and a staff room. Additionally, the school will have a computer lab, a library and a playground. Presently 100% of the school foundations and most of the structure is complete, but funds have fallen short for basic fitting such as windows, blackboards, and light fixtures.
Potential Long Term Impact
The path to a sustainable and prosperous life for the children of Guff can only be through quality education. With access to facilities of a computer lab and library, and qualified teachers, the children of Guff will be able to relise their dreams of a better future. While our aspirations are set, we need your help to fill a gap in funding. This will enable our qualified female teachers and eager students to start the next year in their new purpose built school.
