Many children can't meet the challenges of mainstream school after facing traumatizing life events, from losing their parents to suffering from bullying and violence. We provide schooling in small learning groups of 6 children with teachers and social tutors. We help these children find ways to overcome their distressing experiences and enable them to return to school and eventually graduate with the qualifications that they will need for adult life.
More than 60 % of young people that do not graduate from school remain unemployed and most of them become socially isolated. The increasing number of school drop-outs is a challenge for schools and our youth welfare system. Children face frustration and failure when they feel unable to meet the challenges of school which damages their self esteem and leaves them deeply unprepared for adult life.
We prevent school drop-outs by supporting children and finding ways to meet the challenges they face and to regain self-confidence and motivation. We collaborate with schools, the youth welfare office and other institutions to help support children and their families as soon as possible when problems start to show. We also assist children and their families to reintegrate into school after they have dropped out and give them the confidence to complete their education and eventually graduate.
We will help schools in the prevention of school drop-outs and improve their ability to work with emotionally distressed children. We will help children overcoming distressing life events to manage their fear of school and to gain motivation. We will help them gain self-confidence and experience success. Less young people in Munich will leave school without graduating and more will find access to vocational training and social participation.
