Summary

Girls in Tanzania are greatly underrepresented in secondary school classrooms. By contributing to this project, you will ensure that we can support 35 young women as they pursue their secondary education. Educating girls has numerous positive impacts on family planning, family health, literacy rates and overall vitality of communities. These scholarships will ensure that cohorts of 35 girls enter marriage, motherhood and business with a strong educational foundation.

Challenge

Girls in Tanzania are extremely underrepresented in secondary school classrooms, yet they play a tremendous role in family and community development. In Tanzania, education in village schools can fall short of that provided in urban schools. We believe every child deserves an equal opportunity. This campaign supports girls studying in under-resourced environments through academic study camps offered in December and June. We also support them with fees for exams, books, and boarding.

Solution

Girls Ed provides academic study camps to support our students with a stronger educational foundation as they enter into their roles as professionals, entrepreneurs, wives, and mothers. These study camps provide personalized attention and opportunities for peer-instruction as students grapple with the content of the Tanzanian curriculum. The boost this camp provides to students from village schools is essential for their academic success and post-secondary studies (e.g., A-levels).

Long-Term Impact

With education, these girls move into their adult lives making smarter choices about their health and well-being. They spread the word about the opportunities education provides, and thus contribute to the renewed vitality of their communities. As these educated girls become educated women, they are empowered to serve as leaders and mentors in their communities and local government. The region we serve encompasses thousands of individuals living close to Kigoma,
