This project will provide over 7,000 hours of English, Khmer (the Cambodian national language), math and computer classes in 2013. A quarter of the kids that come to Tiny Toones have never been to school. The rest often find they can't afford the fees or have to help support their families instead. Some are already working by the time they're five years old. They come to Tiny Toones because it's fun, creative and free. With your help we can give them the education that they deserve.
Cambodia has one of the world's youngest populations. More than 40% are under 18 years of age, over 20,000 of who live and/or work on the streets and 15% never enter a school. Tiny Toones' students are aged 5-24 and come from the poorest areas of Phnom Penh. They are vulnerable to substance abuse, exploitation, gang involvement and HIV/AIDS. They face multiple barriers to educational progress as a result of their backgrounds, the costs involved, and being compelled to earn money themselves.
We engage, inspire and educate those least engaged with the public education system. Tiny Toones unique appeal brings the most vulnerable kids to us for dance and creative arts. We use this opportunity to get them into the classroom where we can start making up for lost time. The Education for All project will provide over 200 children with lessons in English, Khmer (the Cambodian national language), and computing every day. Over 500 children will attend Tiny Toones classes throughout 2013.
These key skills are the foundations of further learning. Increased knowledge in these subjects will build self-esteem, motivation and confidence and enable Tiny Toones students to communicate better with peers, public services and potential employers, thereby enhancing their employment prospects and future options.
Tiny Toones saved my life. I was so lonely on the street. When kids get sick, they have their parents to take care of them. When I was sick, I had no-one... because of Tiny Toones I am living my dream
