Summary
VE Global recruits, trains and organizes volunteers from around the world to achieve our mission of fostering the positive development of children at social risk in Chile.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Chile has one of the strongest economies in Latin America, yet it suffers from a drastic income inequality. This results in vital services for children being vastly unequal; the most at-risk children often served by underfunded and understaffed organizations with little hope of changing their situation. VE Global works with organizations such as this; by providing volunteer support, we aim to bridge the income gap and give children at social risk a more positive outlook on their futures.
How will this project solve this problem?
VE Global recruits and trains international volunteers to serve children at social risk in Santiago, Chile. Volunteers work 30 hours a week for a minimum of 4 months in one of our 8 partner social service organizations, which include children's homes, community centers and schools, many of which are located in the most vulnerable areas of Santiago. There they provide an extra set of hands for the staff, serve as positive role models for the children and implement our 4 educational programs.
Potential Long Term Impact
With an average on-the-ground presence of 25 full-time volunteers and four dedicated staff members, VE provides more than 70,000 hours of volunteer support each year and serves more than 300 children daily. Through this work, VE strives to contribute to a brighter future both for the children it serves and the volunteers that work with them, a goal achieved by training volunteers to become educators and role models that serve children both now and into the future.
Project Message
Our programs make a direct impact in the lives of so many children by putting books in their hands, smiles on their faces and by opening up new, positive opportunities for their futures.
