Reclaim food and serve tasty meals with FoodCycle!
United Kingdom
,
Hunger
Every day across the UK, perfectly edible food is being thrown away when it could be going to people who need it. At FoodCycle, we're doing something about this. Our volunteers reclaim surplus food from local supermarkets and cook it into tasty, nutritious meals. These are served to the local community; bringing people together to enjoy a healthy three-course meal. We run 14 projects across the UK, serving food to people affected by food poverty and social isolation.

Bowel cancer is currently the UK's second biggest cancer killer and yet it doesn't have to be. If diagnosed in its earliest stages bowel cancer is very treatable and patients have over a 90% chance of being cured. This project aims to reach one million people in the UK with life-saving information on the symptoms of bowel cancer and simple ways to reduce their risk. We want to stop people dying needlessly from bowel cancer.
Support HIV research- improve quality of life

,
Health
People with HIV face a shorter and poorer quality of life. Many will therefore take vitamins and supplements in addition to their antiretroviral therapy. However many of these supplements have not been proven to be beneficial and some may even cause harm. We wish to employ a researcher who can undertake a systematic review of existing data an present the information accessibly to people living with HIV. This could improve the quality of life of the 70,000 people accessing HIV care in the UK.

Manchester Primary Schools Singing Competition
United Kingdom
,
Children
For many years now, music has not been pursued in many schools much like other subjects, and that has meant generations of children have missed out on the beneficial effects of music generally and of singing in particular. Singing offers stacks of spin-off benefits for the individuals involved. Singing also builds a child's self-esteem, promotes teamwork irrespective of age, gender and background, celebrates diversity, facilitates self-expression - and is just plain fun.
