Summary

Sadly, thousands of dogs live outside on chains, without adequate shelter from harsh weather. Some don't survive. Guardians builds fences and runs, gets these dogs off their heavy chains, provides warm insulated doghouses free to owners, educates them about proper dog care, and provides medical attention and supplies to help them care for their animals. Your donation to this program will improve- or even save- the life of a neglected animal. Please help to cut a chain and change a life today.

Challenge

How do we get "backyard dogs" out of the cold and safe? Guardians builds fences and runs, gets these dogs off their heavy chains, provides warm insulated doghouses free to owners, educates them about proper dog care, and provides medical attention and supplies to help them care for their animals. How about the companion dogs-and cats-of homeless people on the streets of NYC? We search them out, providing warm coats to the dogs, and coats and gloves to their street-dwelling guardians.

Solution

Guardians helps as many dogs as possible to get off chains and secured by large kennels or fenced yards instead. When possible, we persuade the dogs' guardians to allow them to come inside as true family members. We also scour NYC for homelss people with dogs, providing warm coats to both dogs and people, and provide veterinary attention to the animals as needed.

Long-Term Impact

There will always be, for the foreseeable future, dogs who are relegated to living outdoors, all the time, in evey kind of weather. Many will not survive without intervention. We strive to get as many of those animals as possible either inside or into insulated doghouses and warm coats. The longer we execute this mission, the fewer dogs will suffer, and the more people will be educated about the proper way to care for a dog. We have helped hundreds, and will help as many as funds permit.
